General Musical Information
  • Performances:  We are not currently planning a performance with a live audience.  Instead, we will record the musical in sections on March 11.  The musical will be available to rent and view online the weekend of March 19-21.
  • Auditions:  Students will audition with vocal and dance auditions for the musicals.  There will not be a separate acting audition this year, you will be scored on your acting within your singing and dance.  Auditions will be virtual this year, you will record your audition videos and upload them to Flipgrid.
  • Audition 'Workshops':  Audition workshops will also be virtual this year, we will post all audition materials and workshops videos on the website no later than Nov 23.
  • Rehearsals:  Our rehearsals will generally be after school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  We may use some time on Wednesdays if that is available.  Rehearsal schedules will be posted as early as possible.
  • Safety Precautions:  We will continue to follow all safety precautions and guidance from the district, including social distancing, mask wearing, and limited numbers rehearsing together.  We will monitor all guidelines from the state and the district as the year continues, and adjust and adapt if needed.
  • Eligibility:  Anyone who is a Pinecrest students is eligible to be a part of the musical, including Pinecrest students who are fully virtual as a part of the 'Connect' schools during second semester.  Rehearsals will be in person during second semester, so Connect students would still need to come to campus for rehearsals.
  • Fair Share:  There will still be a 'Fair Share' for students to pay/fundraise to participate in the musical, just like in other years, to help offset the costs of the musical.  The fair share will likely be less than previous years, as production costs will be less.  More details and specific information to come.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q:  Do I have to find my own material to audition?
A:  No.  At the audition workshops, you will be provided with audition songs (sheet music and tracks), and you will be taught the audition dance(s).

Q:  What if I've never been on stage before, or am not a good singer/dancer/actor?
A:  Don't let that stop you from coming out.  There are many roles within the show, for many levels of talent/experience.  Come to the workshops and give it a shot!

Q:  How do auditions/casting work?
A:  There are two areas that you will be scored in through the audition...Singing, and Dance.  These scores help to make decisions about callbacks and casting.  Your acting will be scored through the singing and the dance audition.

Q:  Do I have to audition with both (singing/dance)?
A:  Yes, everyone is required to audition with singing and dance.

Q:  Do I have to be in a Performing Arts Class to audition?
A:  No, anyone can audition as long as they are a student enrolled at Pinecrest.
Note:  If you are a senior and graduating early, you are not eligible to audition.

Q:  Do only juniors/seniors get leading roles?
A:  No, someone's grade is not taken into account during casting.  If an underclassmen is best for the role, they will be cast.  We have had freshmen/sophomores in leading roles before.

Q:  Does everyone who auditions get cast?
A:  Not always.  While I wish we could cast everyone who auditions, we cannot have a cast of 118 actors for our musicals.  Some years everyone who auditions does get cast.  However, some years, we have a larger turnout for auditions, and some people do not get cast.

Q:  Does it cost anything to do the musical?
A:  We do ask that all students involved in the musical contribute a 'fair share' to help cover production costs that are not covered by ticket sales alone.  More information about the fair share will be posted shortly.
