Yellow Wallpaper Auditions

Please complete The Yellow Wallpaper Audition Form by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 5.  I am asking that everyone in the class complete this form, even if you are not planning to be on stage.

Auditions for our NCTC production of The Yellow Wallpaper will be August 4, 5, and 7 from 11:00am-3:00 pm each day.

Yellow Wallpaper Full Script: NOTE:  You do not need to print off a copy of this script (unless you want to).  You will be provided with a copy at the first day of auditions on August 4.

Live Music:  We will be exploring the use of live music in this production, both vocal and instrumental.

Yellow Wallpaper Short Story:  This is the original short story of The Yellow Wallpaper that our play is based on.

Audition Scene 1:  John and Jane

Audition Scene 2:  Eleanor and Frank (NOTE:  While this scene is done over the phone in the play, we will do the scene face to face, in the same room, for auditions)

Audition Scene 3:  Jenny and Dorothy

Audition Scene 4:  Women in the Wall (NOTE:  This audition scene is primarily for the women in the wall.  The lines of Jane and Eleanor will be read from off stage during auditions)

The Yellow Wallpaper Audition Information
  • Monday, Aug 4 will be theatre activities, a script read through, a discussion of how auditions will go, and then you will have time to further prepare your audition with scene partners.
  • Tuesday, Aug 5 will be our day for primary auditions, and we will talk though what the second day of auditions will look like.
  • Wednesday, Aug 6 we will NOT be meeting.  This will give an additional day for you to prepare for the second day of auditions.
  • Thursday, Aug 7 will be the second day of auditions.
  • Like musical auditions, you will have a 'primary' audition scene.  Your audition scene should be memorized and prepared.  (If you are helping someone else out for a different audition scene, it's okay to have the script in your hand for that).
  • If you are interested in multiple characters, you can have more than one 'primary' audition scene that you have memorized and prepared.

Yellow Wallpaper:  Casting the Show

For this assignment, create your own cast list.  Remember, you can cast yourself in one of these roles if you feel you are best fit for the part.  Cast the following roles:
  • John (and understudy)
  • Jane (and understudy)
  • Eleanor (and understudy)
  • Jenny (and understudy)
  • Dorothy (and understudy)
  • Frank (and understudy)
  • Women in the Wall Ensemble Leads (three)

Once you have created your cast list, please email it to me [email protected].  Please email it to me by the end of the day on Friday, August 8.

NOTE:  Your casting choices are confidential, I will not share them with anyone in the class.
