Rising Freshmen
Welcome to the Pinecrest Players Theatre Department, we are excited to have you on campus! The best way to get involved in the theatre program quickly is to sign up for a class (or classes) your freshman year. The majority of what we do in the theatre program is based in these classes. Class options for freshmen are below.
Beginning Theatre 1 (Performance): While this is a performance based class, there is no audition needed. The class is designed to help students get comfortable on the stage, and introduce them to the fundamentals of theatre. While we do performances in class, here is no public performance required for this class.
Intermediate Theatre 2 (Performance): This is an audition based class, with a public performance at the end of the semester. The class projects lean heavily towards on stage performance, including scenes, monologues, and a one act production. The audition for this class requires memorization and presentation of a Shakespeare Monologue. To audition:
Beginning Theatre 1 (Technical): For students who enjoy theatre but prefer to be behind the scenes, plan to sign up for this class. We cover the fundamentals of technical theatre including carpentry, lighting, scenic painting, properties and costumes.
If you have room in your schedule and are interested in all aspects of theatre, you can take performance and the technical classes as a freshman. Many of our upper level theatre students are heavily involved in both performance and tech.
- Select, memorize and prepare a monologue from this approved list
- Record a video of yourself presenting the monologue. Begin the recording with an audition slate. This means you introduce yourself with your first and last name, the name of the play, and the name of the character.
- Record this monologue as if you were presenting it on a stage. The recording device should be at least 15 feet away (far enough away to see your entire body, not just your head, and your full range of movement.
- The monologue presentation will be judged on accuracy of the text, projection and clarity. Basically, perform the monologue as it's written, and be loud and clear.
- Email your recording to Mr. Faw at [email protected]. NOTE: If you have difficulty attaching the file and getting it to send, still reach out to Mr. Faw through email and we will arrange another method of delivery.
- AUDITION DEADLINE: Thursday, April 30 is the deadline to audition for the Intermediate Theatre Arts class.
