Project Description
Assignments will be submitted through Canvas

This project can be done as a group project (2-3 people in a group).  Or, it can be done as an individual project.

Description:  Each group/individual will choose a script to base their project on.  The script should either come from the 'approved script' list, or it should be approved by Mr. Faw.  

Groups/individuals will create a portfolio based off of research/design of this script.  Portfolio will include elements of directing, costume design, scenic design, publicity design, as well as one more design area of choice.

  • Dec 11:  Final Decision for groups/individuals
  • Jan 5:  Deadline for script approval (scripts will be purchased for you, you do not have to buy your own)

General Project Assignments (these are assignments that all groups/individuals complete, not tied to a specific design area).
  • Script Search and Selection
  • Group Contract (this assignment is not required for individuals)​
  • Director's Reaction/Artistic Representation
  • Storyboard Spreadsheet and Storyboard
  • Design Vision Board

Project Design Assignments

Groups and individuals will be completing assignments and creating products for all four design areas listed below.  

Costume Design Assignments
  • Costume Plot
  • Costume Research
  • Select at least 2 costumes to design
  • Rough sketches of costume ideas
  • Final Costume Design (choose one from options below)
  1. ​Option 1:  Two Costume Renderings with fabric swatches (watercolor)
  2. Option 2:  Build/Create two Costumes, have a 'Costume Parade' with actors as characters, photo shoot
  3. Option 3:  If you have a different idea, propose it to Mr. Faw for approval

Scenic Design Assignments
  • Scenic Plot
  • Scenic Research
  • Select 1 scene from your play to design 
  • Rough sketches of scenic ideas
  • Final Scenic Design (choose one from options below)
  1. ​Option 1:  One Scale White Model of your scene
  2. Option 2:  One scale Model (using other materials of your choice) of your scene
  3. Option 3:  One digital 3D design model of your set
  4. Option 4:  If you have a different idea, propose it to Mr. Faw for approval

Publicity Design Assignments
  • Cast/Crew List and Bios
  • Publicity Poster
  • Playbill (standard size playbill, printed and folded...this should be a physical, printed copy of the playbill)
  • Final Design Assignment:  Social Media (Instagram) Design

Area of Choice Design Assignments:  Your group will choose a 4th area of design for your show and propose your product for approval by Mr. Faw.  Like the design areas above, your proposal should include multiple different elements/artifacts, as well as a final product.  Possible design areas include.
  • Movie Trailers
  • Sound Design (if the show is heavy on sound elements)
  • Properties Design (if the show is heavy on prop elements)
  • Create a detailed, in depth website for your show
  • Something else you want to do?  Propose it to Mr. Faw for approval​

Project Presentation
We will plan to have project presentations in class near the end of the school year.  We will assign specific days once the school year starts.
