Publicity Design

Publicity Design Assignment 6A:  Cast/Crew List and Bios

  • Cast List:  Type your your ideal cast list for your play (this can include actors you currently work with, Hollywood Stars, or famous Broadway Actors.  You must, however, include at least one famous professional in the field (dead or alive is acceptable).  Money is no object, assume an unlimited budget.  Include ALL actors you need for your play.

  • Crew List: Similar to your cast list, type a production crew list for your play.  You must include at least the following positions (certainly include more if you would like):
Director, Costume Designer, Scenic Designer, Lighting Designer, Stage Manager
Like before, you may cast this from people you know, but you must include at least one famous designer or technician to include.

  • Biography Research:   Choose one famous 'featured performer' you plan to include in your cast, and one famous 'featured designer' who will be on your crew list, to research and type up a short biography on each of them.  No minimum length for the biography, but it should cover the important highlights of their career.

*NOTE*  You may only include yourself in either of these lists once.  For example, if you cast yourself acting in it, you cannot also be director and set designer.

Publicity Assignment 6B: Poster Design

Poster Design:  Create three separate poster designs for your production.  Each poster should include:
  • Name of the company producing the show (name your own theatre company)
  • Play title and playwright
  • Production dates, times, and venue
  • Ticket prices, and how can tickets be purchased?
  • Rights/Royalties Information (this can usually be found on the first couple of pages of the script)
  • NOTE:  You will need physical copies of the printed posters when we score the Publicity Design Final Product, as well as when you do your final presentation.

Publicity Assignment 6C: Playbill Design
Digitally create a playbill for your production.  This should be a physical playbill that you can print out (once folded/stapled, it should read in the correct order for an audience).  Your Playbill should include:
  • Cover page with cover art
  • Show Dates/Times
  • Play title, playwright name
  • Rights/royalties information (this can usually be found on first couple of pages of the script)
  • Cast list, with headshot pictures for at least 5 performers (you can include as many headshots as you would like)
  • Production crew and designer list, with headshot picture for at least your featured designer (again, you can include as many headshots as you would like)
  • At least a paragraph as a 'producer's note' (this note is to the audience, why did you choose to produce/direct this show, why is it important to you, what do you want the audience to take away from it?)
  • Special Thanks (people who helped you pull together show, anyone who donated money, etc)
  • Include anything else you think necessary for the playbill
  • NOTE:  You will need a physical copy of the printed playbill when we score the Publicity Design Final Product, as well as when you do your final presentation.
