First Read Through/Reactions
Artistic Representation
Your first step is to simply read through the play. Don’t get bogged down in this read through on specific acting or technical elements…for this first read through you are doing an initial read to get your basic ideas on the script.
Assignment 1a: Director's reaction Once you have read through the script, type a journal entry (a few paragraphs) looking at the play through the eyes of a director/designer. Think about the following questions (you don’t have to answer all of the questions, these are just to get you thinking).
· Were there any themes/ideas that were important through the play (love, revenge, greed, family, etc)
· Were there specific characters in the play that you identified with, or who spoke to you?
· Were there scenes in the play, or specific moments, that really grabbed your attention and spoke to you?
· Are there parts of the play that confuse you (characters, stage directions, etc)?
· Did any images come to your mind as you read through? Specific pictures, staging ideas, costumes, etc.
Assignment 1b: Artistic Representation Find a work of art that to you, represents this play. This can be a painting, a sketch, a song…any work of art that in your mind, connects to the themes and ideas in this play. It can be abstract, it can be realistic, as long as it speaks to you.
If you cannot find a work of art that speaks to you like this, create one yourself. You can paint, etc.
Find a way to upload this piece of art to Canvas/Google Classroom (take a picture of it, include a pdf, sound file, etc)
