SketchUp for Schools

SketchUp Assignment 1

The first thing you are going to want to do is to create a folder in your Google Drive specifically for these projects we are doing.  You can label it however you want to, just know where it is so you can easily access it (the instruction video says that it creates a folder for you when you open the app, by my Google Drive didn't do that...so I just created one myself).

Click https://edu.sketchup.com/app and log in with your Google account (this is your ncmcs.net email address and password).

Once you are logged in, click on 'curriculum' to the side.  Scroll to find 'SketchUp for Schools Introduction' and click on 'Start Modeling.'  This will open a modeling window.  There may be a smaller window with an embedded video, but that video is probably blocked (because it's vimeo).  That tutorial video has been downloaded and is embedded on below these instructions, you can watch it here.

NOTE:  The SketchUp for Schools Tutorial Video is blocked by the school district.  You can view the tutorial video in the window below.

Watch the video and follow the instructions to create a house.  You can have as much fun as you want customizing the house, but this project should have the following (at minimum):
  • A house with an angled roof
  • At least one door that 'Mike' would be able to walk through...and the door should have some sort of color or texture that you like
  • At least one window with a window treatment that you can see through
  • The rooftop should have a roof treatment
  • The outside walls of the house should be some sort of brick or panel treatment
Once you have created this, take at least three screenshots of your house from different angles (use the orbit and pan tools for the different angles).  At least one angle should have 'Mike' close the door so we can see that he will be able to fit through it.  These screenshots will be what you upload to Canvas as documentation of the assignment.

Scene Design Assignment
NOTE:  If you have not yet done Assignment 1, please go back and do it first.

Once you are logged in, click on 'curriculum' to the side.  Scroll to find 'Set Design for Theatre Class' and click on 'Start Modeling.'  This will open a modeling window, with a smaller window and a video.  You can click on the maximize button on the top right of the smaller window, that will open that in a separate tab as a vimeo link, so you can click back and forth between tabs as you're working, or you can leave it as is.

NOTE:  If you are having trouble finding the tutorial video, you can also just click here to access it.

Watch the video and follow the instructions to create the set design.  You can have as much fun as you want customizing the scenic design, but this project should have the following (at minimum):
